5 Star Books I Read in 2020

This has been a great year for getting back into reading. I jumped back into my love for fantasy books back in June/July. I went through a reading slump August-October which was a struggle- all thanks to the Red Queen. Besides that, I read a total of 20 books this year! I am so proud and astonished at the amount of books I’ve read. I have found that I’m a really picky reader. I have read so many books this year that people raved about that I ended up hating- Crave, To Kill A Kingdom, and The Cruel Prince to name a few.

Today, I will be sharing my 5/5 star rated books for the year! I don’t have too many to share, but I wanted to go ahead and make this post anyways. The best of the best will be listed below. I hope that you choose to pick one of these up in 2021 and love it as much as I did. Enjoy!

Vampire Academy

This is the first book in a long series that I have yet to read. I loved this book so much. I related to the main character a lot and was able to sympathize with her and care about her. She is a kick-ass female protagonist, which is a major thing I love to see in young adult books. She is confident, strong, and determined- all of the qualities I value and see in myself. I highly recommend this book if you are tired of reading about weak female protagonists.

The Shadows Between Us

Oh how I loved this book! This was the first newer book that I purchased and read after reading all of my old TBR. I couldn’t have chosen a more perfect book. Everything I love about fantasy and my own personal interests are in this book- enemies to lovers trope, royalty, murder, etc. It is a short standalone, so it’s a super quick and easy read. The female protagonist is again a strong, confident, and determined woman. She has substance- hobbies and actual friends. This was a joy to read and was an amazing introduction back into the world of young adult reading.

Crooked Kingdom

This is the second and final book in the Six of Crows duology. I enjoyed this book a lot more than the first because we got to learn more about the back story of the characters than we did in the first book. This band of thieves comes together once again for another incredible mission. There are twists that I didn’t see coming, and kept me wanting to read more. This is one of the only books I have ever read that has made me laugh out loud and also shed some tears. I got to relate to the characters more and sympathize with them. The friendships formed in this duology are like no other friendships I have ever read. I truly loved this book and I am so glad I picked it up.

Red Queen

This book really had me diving back into the fantasy genre, in the same way that books I used to read in middle school did. This was a hard book to put down and had twists that I did not see coming. I love when a book is able to surprise me and keep me on my toes. I own the rest of the series and am excited to read more into this world.

xoxo, Kimmy
